About Team V.A.N.

Student leadership is four team leads specializing in electrical, mechanical, software, or operations. The operations lead manages outreach, fundraising, communications, and other organizational responsibilities. Because membership is still small, students and Leads are expected to work across those areas while we design and build the robot. As the team grows, we plan to form larger, more distinct subteams with additional student leaders.

Experienced students will train new members and keep notes on both the technical work and how the team is run, so those responsibilities can be handed to future leaders.

Indian River County currently has no local FRC team, and students in southern Brevard often face transportation and financial barriers to existing programs. Palm Bay Magnet Senior High operates under a Title I schoolwide program, and Bayside High and Heritage High serve significant populations of economically disadvantaged students.

We meet and build in more than one place so the team is not dependent on a single partnership.

• Mind Forge Guild is a local makerspace and our primary prototyping location, with woodworking and prototyping facilities. The makerspace has offered free access and weekend space to set up and practice on a field.
• Eastern Florida State College has pledged permanent space on campus for weekday meetings, planning, and team activities. We have access to their machine shop, 3D printer farm, tools, and storage. Metalworking faculty can assist with machining custom metal components, while we supply the raw materials.
